Hi, I’m Hadar. I photograph pregnancy, families and couples — outdoors, near the end of the day, when the light stops being bright and starts being kind.
Almost everyone who writes to me opens with the same sentence. We are not photogenic. The children will not sit still. I have never found that to be a problem — the sessions that come out stiff are the ones where somebody was told to pose. So I do not pose you. I put you somewhere beautiful, give you something to do, and get out of the way. The frames I keep are almost always taken half a second after somebody stopped trying.
Pregnancy is where most of my work is, and the work I care about most. It is a short season with a hard deadline: there is no photographing it later.
Afterwards you get the full edited gallery — not a selected handful. Out of it there are usually one or two you end up printing large and walking past every day for years. That is the photograph I am working for the whole time, and I never know in advance which one it will be.
